Doors' Jim Morrison to have pardoned in Florida

A female who said she was married for the Doors singer Jim Morrison said Thursday that Florida's intention to pardon him for any 1969 indecent exposure conviction can be a cheap political ploy.

Patricia Kennealy Morrison told The Associated Press she's not pleased about the pardon and think the late singer will be either as they didn't expose himself on stage as some claim. The conviction ought to be expunged or perhaps the verdict overturned as fraud instead of just pardoned, she said.

"I use a real downside to the semantics of the pardon. The pardon says that most his suffering and all sorts of he experienced throughout the trial, everything each of us experienced, was negated," she said.

Gov. Charlie Crist planned to request a pardon - anticipated to be granted Thursday - as a result of doubts that Morrison actually exposed his penis within a rowdy March 1, 1969 concert at Miami's Dinner Key Auditorium. He and also the three-member Cabinet be the Clemency Board. Approval is necessary from the governor and a minimum of two fellow members. Two members have said they are going to vote using the governor.

Morrison was appealing the conviction when he was discovered dead inside a Paris bathtub in 1971. The expected pardon comes each day following the singer might have turned 67.

The surviving members from the Doors support the pardon.

İnquired about expunging Morrison's record or overturning the conviction, Crist said, "The option before us may be the pardon or otherwise not."

Kennealy Morrison exchanged vows with Morrison inside a Celtic pagan ceremony overseen by way of a licensed minister, she said. Wedding ceremony was valid, though she says she never filed the paperwork to set it within the books. Morrison left his entire estate to a new woman, Pamela Courson, a longtime girlfriend who was simply with him in Paris when he died. Courson died in 1974.

Kennealy Morrison said the conviction generated Morrison's and also the Doors' demise.

"He thought about it. It affected him deeply. In fact I think it absolutely was among the contributory factors behind his death, actually. It certainly destroyed The Doors, virtually. They did not perform a lot like a group after Miami, following the verdict came through," she said.

The did-he-or-didn't-he debate over what went down on the Miami concert was revived by Crist's curiosity about the situation.

The surviving band members say a drunken Morrison teased everyone else, but never exposed himself.

"It never actually happened. It was mass hypnosis," said Ray Manzarek, The Doors' keyboard player.

Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger said Morrison's behavior was influenced by an acting troupe that disrobed during plays.

"He only agreed to be carrying out a mind trip - while they would say - a mind trip around the audience and so they totally fell for this," Manzarek said.

Manzarek said Morrison was far drunker than normal, so much that they questioned whether he is going on stage.

Crist began considering a pardon in 2007 in the urging of the fan. He was quoted saying he doubts whether Morrison actually exposed himself. Morrison was in prison for public profanity and indecent exposure and sentenced to 6 months in jail along with a $500 fine.

The situation is now murkier as years passed. Morrison's defense attorney said recently how the singer received a good trial with credible witnesses on sides, and fans have been on the show have differing recollections.

Some tips about what many people agree with: The Doors proceeded stage late, the Dinner Key Auditorium was oversold and wasn't air-con. Morrison was drunk and stopped during songs by having an anti-authority, profanity-riddled rant.

A live lamb was triggered stage at some point, and Morrison also grabbed a police officer's hat and threw it within the crowd. The singer became popular his shirt and fiddled together with his belt, and fans poured onto happens.

"There were 100 photos offered in evidence in the trial, photos of other nutritional foods - Jim with all the lamb, Jim with all the hat, around the stage collapsing, riot within the audience. Not merely one photo of Jim's magnificent member," said Manzarek.

A pardon won't change Morrison's image, however it will right an incorrect, Manzarek and Krieger said.

"Jim's legacy is among Dionysian madness and frenzy as well as a chaotic American poet. I don't believe how the Miami episode has altered his image one iota," Manzarek said.

Krieger added: "Nobody want to have that charge hanging over their scalp even though they're dead. I'm sure his family could be very happy to note that go, especially because it never happened."

You can find fans who still swear Morrison exposed himself.

"He actually unzipped and pulled his pants down a bit, so much that you can observe everything. I remember being shocked when that happened, and definitely it happened," said Lee Winer, 56, who now lives north of Bay area. "I can continue to picture it want it was yesterday."

Others disagree. Helene Davis of Miami said she was an 18-year-old within the front row from the concert using a friend. She said Morrison teased the group by pretending he would unzip his pants, but never actually exposed himself.

"We were watching and waiting as it was obvious this is where he was using it," Davis said. "I just remembered thinking, 'Yes, it will happen! It's going happen! It's possible!' Plus it never did."
